The Body Opponent Bag, or BOB, is a punching bag made to look like a human body so that training can be more realistic. Compared to a regular heavy bag or punching bag, BOB is a better sparring partner that lets you train more accurately. The BOB punching bag is great for practicing any martial art or combat sport, but it shines in tactical situations like Krav Maga and self-defense.
Using the BOB gives you a realistic and personalized training experience. The top half of a man’s body, including the head and chest, is sculpted here as a freestanding figure, but the arms and legs are missing. Bob has extensive, chiseled features, and his face looks scary but is kind. The BOB dummy looks like a natural person because it has human-like features.
Some people say the weakness of the Century BOB body opponent bag is that it doesn’t offer as much resistance as a heavy bag. But this depends a lot on how seriously you train most of the time. From our point of view, it’s about the same as hitting a 30- to 40-pound bag or using punching mitts. The Bob is a small wall between them, but it can be broken easily. BOB keeps a strong base while looking into the body. Like hitting a brick wall with a few cracks here and there.
One of BOB’s strengths is that he can move around. A Century BOB weighs about 22 kg when it is empty and about 122 kg when it is full of water or sand. In other words, unlike a heavy bag fixed to the ceiling, you can move the BOB anywhere you want when it’s open.
If you ever want to compete, it is clear that hitting a person-shaped target is better. Because it looks like a natural person, you can switch it in the same places you would like an actual opponent. Aiming is not as realistic when you train with gloves or heavy bags (or the thrill of hitting a human form). Century BOB is great for practicing uppercuts, liver punches, and solar plexus strikes because it looks like a natural person.
Also, unlike most human opponents, BOB is very good at changing. It’s easy to change the height so you can train with opponents of different sizes. Take off Century BOB’s head, and you can use him as a grappling dummy without using his base. Use him as much as you want to pound the ground and practice your throws.
But when you throw it, it won’t swing back at you as a heavy bag would. Since the Century BOB doesn’t hang in the air like a heavy bag, it won’t come swinging at you as it would.
The BOB is made of high-strength plastisol, which makes it as durable as a heavy bag, if not more so. Since BOB was made with soft materials, you won’t need shin guards or other protective gear to kick it.
The BOB is made to be strong, so even a beginner at self-defense or the most robust athlete can hit it for hours without breaking it. BOB is a great way to work out if you’re a boxer, a martial artist, a kickboxer, or just someone who wants to try something new. You’re a formidable opponent.
